How to Feel at Home in Your Body
Because your body isn’t your enemy—it’s your home.
There’s a quiet ache many women carry as we age.
It’s not always spoken out loud, but it lives in the mirror, in our joints, in the dressing room, in the way we tense up when someone brings out a camera.
It’s the feeling of being disconnected from the body we live in.
Of not recognizing it.
Of mourning who we once were—while trying to make peace with who we are now.
And yet, this body?
She’s carried us through decades of life.
She’s adapted, healed, stretched, birthed, and rebuilt.
She’s never stopped showing up for us.
And maybe now, it’s time we show up for her.
When Did We Stop Feeling at Home in Ourselves?
For many of us, it wasn’t one single moment—it was slow. Subtle.
We got busy taking care of everyone else.
We became experts at pushing through, ignoring the ache, and silencing the signals.
We made peace with discomfort. We called it “normal.”
And along the way, we stopped listening.
And then, one day, we wake up and realize we don’t feel at home anymore.
Not in our skin.
Not in our shape.
Not in the rhythm of our breath.
But here’s the truth:
Coming home to your body doesn’t require a new diet, a perfect routine, or a number on the scale.
It requires a reunion with yourself.
Coming Home Is a Practice
This is not about “getting your body back.”
This is about reclaiming your relationship with your body.
And like any relationship, it takes tenderness, trust, and time.
Here’s what that might look like:
Listen Without Judging
Notice how you speak to yourself when you look in the mirror. Would you say those words to someone you love?
Choose Movement That Feels Good
Move not to punish, but to celebrate. Dance, stretch, walk, hoop—whatever brings you back into sensation.
Practice Embodiment, Not Escapism
Drop out of your head and into your body. Hula hooping was my practice, but yours might be yoga, swimming, or lying on the floor and just breathing.
Dress for the You of Today
Let go of the “shoulds.” Wear what feels beautiful, comfortable, and aligned with your energy now. That’s style. That’s grace.
Honor Her Stories
Every scar, wrinkle, and curve is a chapter in your life. What if, instead of trying to erase them, you listened to what they wanted to tell you?
Why This Matters
Because how you feel in your body impacts everything else.
Your confidence. Your relationships. Your creativity. Your joy.
When you feel at home in your skin, you stop shrinking. You stop apologizing. You stop waiting for “someday” and start living today.
You take up space—not just physically but energetically.
You begin to trust your intuition again.
You start making decisions from alignment, not fear.
This Is What Life Over 50 Is About
It’s not a crisis. It’s a coming home.
